Luau Party Supplies
Luau Party Ideas and the Supplies to make it all happen:
  1. Dress the Part- A luau isn’t a luau without grass skirts, leis and coconut bras. Depending on your budget, provide the items for the guests to dress themselves, or encourage them to dress in their own Hawaiian shirts and floral dresses. Up the participation, by announcing in the invitations “Ugliest Hawaiian Shirt” or “Best Dressed” contests. People will surely come dressed to impress…or maybe just dressed for a laugh.
  2. Decorate appropriately- being out side is a must at a luau party. Backyards and Park venues are ideal areas. Decorate with inexpensive tikki torches or paper lanterns. Breaking apart leis or buying fabric flowers will help decorate the food tables.
  3. Assign the “Grill Master”- Where there is a luau party, there must be a barbeque. A great way to keep the cost down is to have everyone “BYOM”- bring your own meat! This ensures that everyone will be able to eat something that they like. Easy sides such as fresh fruit, fresh green salad and long grain and wild rice complete your menu.
The Grill Master isn't always a guy!
  4. Fruity Drinks- Fruity cocktails and luau parties are the perfect combo. Make a large bowl of punch and have cups with umbrellas to entertain your guests. Spike the punch if you have all adult guests.

    Recommended Punch Recipe:
    ¼ Pineapple Juice
    ¼ Sprite
    ¼ Hawaiian Punch
    ¼ Orange Juice

Adding pieces of fruit such as cut pineapple, oranges and cherries will add to the taste.
Adding some vodka, gin or any other fruity or clear liquor will fit in well also!

  5. Hula Lessons- This is a great way to get your guests up and dancing. Read up on certain “How To” sites to get the basics of hula dancing. Pass that on to your guests and have the non-participating guest vote. You might find some hula girls in the making!

  6. Bonfire- Be very careful about this idea. If you have a lot of small guests, you should probably stay away from this idea. You can buy pre-made fire pits or buy some rocks to help contain the fire.

  7. Limbo Contest- All you need for this is a broom, piece of plastic piping (you could have them cut you off a piece at the local hardware store) or just a jump rope. If it goes too fast, do it again and start a tournament where people qualify to be in the finals!
