July 4 th is a day when we just yearn to be outdoors. Many of us have the day off work and the kids are out of school, so it’s the perfect excuse for a picnic in the sun. But you can extend the holiday to include even more family members this year. You can turn July 4 th into a family gathering or family reunion.
Odd are that we don’t get to see as much of our family as we would like. Busy schedules with work, activities and not living close to one another can make losing touch happen all too easily. So to make sure you get a lot of RSVP’s on your reunion, send out invitations by card or email as early as you can. Invite those family members who you tend to see only at Christmastime, who live a few towns away or in another state, and everyone else who you would love to spend the day with.
Think of a place to have your reunion that is fun and has plenty of room for activities. It can be anywhere from in your backyard, the local beach, a state park, or even at a nearby theme park! Many state parks and amusement parks have areas set aside to rent for big picnics and gatherings, and some even include the food! Or if your get-together will be a barbeque, picnic, or a pot-luck, include that on the invitation, along with any specific dishes you'd like people to bring.
Wherever you choose to have your family reunion, remember to bring those outdoor essentials:
- Plenty of water
- Sunscreen
- Bug Spray
- Hats
- Comfortable shoes
- Frisbees
- Bikes
- Bathing Suits
- A blanket
- Camera
Having a family reunion for July 4th is a wonderful way to get everyone together, and turn the holiday into one for the family. You can make this a new tradition, either having a picnic at your house, at a different relative’s house each year, or at a different park each year.
So get those invitations out, your picnic basket filled and put that sunscreen on for a July 4th weekend for the whole family!
