Celebrate the nation’s birthday in the nation’s capital! Join over 500,000 Americans on the most patriotic day of the year by watching America’s Independence Day Parade. The parade begins at 12:00am and will start on Constitution Ave between 7 th and 17 th streets in downtown Washington D.C.
This event has been taking place for over 50 years and will consist of over 100 different types of parade participants. From all over the United States, marching bands will come to play songs celebrating the nation’s freedom. Fifteen floats will be featured in the parade along with giant balloons and people on horseback. This year’s event will also feature the brave soldiers of the American Armed Forces military units. The parade also expects many celebrity attendees including movie and television actors, recording artists, and local and national dignitaries.
The parade is a large part of the celebration in the nation’s capital, but not the only exciting thing happening. The National Folklife Festival is in its 29 th year of celebrating the cultural heritage of the American people. The festival is a grassroots event put sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute and takes place on National Mall, the nation’s front lawn. In this outdoor museum you can expect to find people, performances, food, crafts and lectures from all walks of life. It demonstrates the significance of Independence Day and the sense of community and cultural richness of our nation. This 4-Day event takes place between July 4 th and July 8 th.
At 9:00 there will be a fireworks show over the Washington monument. The beautiful, colorful display of lights will last for a half-hour and is in jubilation of the anniversary of the nation’s freedom.
